THE REDOUBT OF THE HUMAN
Saturation. Artifice.
Our age is an uninterrupted stream of generated imagery.
Everything so polished.
Everything so algorithmically simulated that the boundary between reality and fiction disappears.
My work does not react with nostalgia or despair.
My stance is both radical and proud: returning to the origins of gesture (visual gesture? Maybe), to the primordial memory of the mark, to the raw and rough friction of matter.
An escape from present?
NO WAY!
An act of affirmation.
A conscious decision: to stand firmly on the ground of tangible experience.
Marks as living traces (roots?), errors, imprints, bodies, thought.
Unprogrammable thought.
I don’t give a fuck about infinite replication.
That’s not my fight.
I claim the space of the artwork as a redoubt of the unquestionably human.
Visual and conceptual resistance where gesture is just a direct testimony.
Or just consciousness.
Or simply light.
Presence, for sure.
No tricks. No masks.
Only the non-negotiable essence of who we are.
